It's a Wrap and Save the Date!
The 2019 summer season is nearly at its end. The last day to take a spin, visit the museum, and shop in the gift shop is Monday, September 2nd (Labor Day). Your wooden friends will be getting a dose of rest and a dose of regular maintenance. The 2019 Carousel Christmas is scheduled for Sunday, December 1st, so mark your busy calendars and save the date!
This season has been busy for the 114-year-old carousel! 2019 marked the 84th Kit Carson County Fair that PTC #6 has spun its magic. The carousel first operated during the Fair of 1928. It ran during the 1929 and 1930 County Fairs and then resumed operation in 1938. Due to the drought and the Great Depression, Kit Carson County did not have a fair from 1931-1937…but America’s favorite Merry-Go-Round has gone around and merrily at every fair since.
PTC #6 is one of the oldest amusement park rides in Colorado, and just like brand new thrill rides, our wooden friends must comply to all safety standards set by the amusement park licensing division of the Colorado Department of Labor. The 2019 season had the new addition of the safety sign, including the requirement to abide by the universal height standard. In order to ride the carousel alone, a child must be at least 42 inches tall. A child shorter than 42 inches must be accompanied on the ride.
The chariot restoration campaign officially kicked off this season. "After 114 years, they are lumpy! Making the Carousel ride quite bumpy!" All the contributions made throughout the season will greatly help this restoration effort!
See you in December!
