A Long Winter's Nap
We would like to thank everybody for a great season! It was one to remember, but now that it is over, the Kit Carson County Carousel is preparing for a few long and restful naps over the coming months… And a few festivities in-between!
Karen and Rand Hood from Visual West will make their annual pilgrimage to the carousel and do careful touch-ups of the dings and gouges that resulted from the animals being greatly loved by its thousands of riders during the past season. Come Spring, all of the animals will receive a fresh coat of varnish over their saddles, muzzles and flanks after each is cleaned with soft cloths and gentle soap. This shiny top coat of varnish will continue to protect the precious original paint and keep the animals looking sharp!
“There will always be a need for ongoing restoration because the carousel itself is a museum that needs to be ‘touched’. A carousel that cannot be ridden is not a carousel at all.”
